The PSAT will be administered on October 14th for 9th-11th grade.  PSAT is available to all students, however the state of South Carolina will pay for the test for 10th graders.  Any other students wishing to take the PSAT will need to pay $13.00 to Mrs. Smiley in Guidance by September 23rd.

If you feel intimidated by standardized test of all kinds, there are several web sites you can go to that have practice tests you can take.  These will help you familiarize yourself with the types of questions used on these tests and can help take some of the fear out of them.

NAHS has purchased this SAT course to help our students prepare for the SAT.  Use it to help you prepare.

TEST-TAKING TIPS for tests of all kinds
  1. Don’t try to cram or stay up all night.  Prepare for tests by spacing studying over days or even weeks before the test.

  2. Get a good night’s sleep the night before the test and eat a well-balanced breakfast so you’re in top form.

  3. Arrive on time and keep a positive attitude.

  4. Relax.  Remain calm and in control.  If you find yourself becoming stressed out, breathe deeply and slowly.

  5. Concentrate.  Don’t be distracted by what’s going on in the room around you.  Do not be disturbed about others finishing before you do.

  6. Survey the test quickly to find out how much you can spend on each section or question.

  7. Budget your time and use the full time allowed.

  8. Read the directions carefully and note any special instructions.  Read all questions carefully, paying special attention to words like always, only, all, and never.

  9. Answer the easy questions first.  Then do the difficult ones.  Think before you write.

 10. Check and review all your answers.
