All applications and information must be obtained from Mrs. Smiley in Guidance.

 

Students should apply to at least three colleges prior to December 3rd so that you will have several options.  Students will begin applying for college admission in September.  College applications are available in Guidance for most in-state schools.  If you plan to attend an out-of-state school, write to the school for information and applications.  All college applications must be mailed by me.  Once the application has been completed and the fee attached in the form of a check or money order, bring those two items along with an addresses legal size envelope complete with two (2) stamps to my office.  I will complete the recommendation and attach an official transcript.

 

*Students are strongly encouraged to apply online if at all possible.  Transcripts must still be mailed by Mrs. Smiley. Bring addressed envelope and stamps.

 

1.      Selective Service-All males must register with Selective Service within 30 days of their eighteenth birthday.  You can also register online at www.sss.gov.

2.      Horace Mann Scholarship- Students at any Aiken Public High School who are dually enrolled at Aiken Technical College can apply to win a $500 scholarship toward tuition at the college.  To be eligible for the scholarship, students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, be enrolled in two classes at Aiken Technical College during the semester the scholarship is awarded, and have a written recommendation from their school principal. 3.      The 2010 Oh, The Places You’ll Go College Scholarship Program offers a scholarship to students graduating in 2010. Visit the ohtheplaces.org website for an application.

4.      Suntrust Bank offers 15 $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors beginning September 14 until May 14th. Students must register online at Suntrusteducation.com.

5.      Aiken Technical College offers campus tours on Mondays and Wednesdays at 1PM and Fridays at 9AM. Reservations are requested. Contact Lisa Sommers at Aiken Tech.

6.      The Common Black College application is accepted at 34 member institutions. Students can apply for a one time fee of $35.00. Visit eduinconline.com to complete an application.

7.      SallieMae.com offers a free Scholarship search. Students who register are entered in a monthly drawing for a $1,000 Scholarship.

8.      Concurrent Enrollment is available at USCA for juniors or seniors who have a combined SAT or PSAT of 1020 or a 21 on the ACT. Students must also be ranked in the top 25% of the class.

9.      Savannah State University offers a degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Management. Students can receive in state tuition costs for this program.

10. Columbia College has been awarded a grant for young women majoring in chemistry, math, or computer. Students must meet the Life Scholarship requirements. The scholarship is for $7,500 a year and targets women and minorities. Interested young ladies should contact Dr. Baker. See Mrs. Smiley for further information.

11. Students and parents are reminded that applications for federal grants and loans are available at the FAFSA website. Seniors should check the priority deadline for financial aid applications at their specific college.

12. Fort Valley State University’s Augusta area alumni chapter offers scholarships. Contact information is available for any senior who will attend Fort Valley State University.

13. Any senior who needs to mail 1st semester transcripts to their respective colleges are reminded to bring an addressed, stamped envelope to Mrs. Smiley. Check your college deadline for grade and financial aid information.

14. The Anderson University Theatre Department offers scholarships up to $4,000 per year.

15. Palmetto Fellows may be eligible for an Anderson University Fellows Scholarship of full tuition, room and board. Contact admissions at Anderson for details.

16. The South Carolina Student Loan Corporation offers the South Carolina Teachers and Career Changes Loan Programs with loans of up to $2,500 a year. April 15 is the priority deadline for applications.

17. The North Augusta Sertoma Scholarship Fund awards $1,000 scholarships to applicants on the basis of scholastic aptitude, financial need, and citizenship. The deadline to apply is April 16.

18. Caterpillar Corporation offers a dealer service technician program at Florence Darlington Technical College. Interested students should apply to Florence Darlington Tech by April 15.

19. The Aiken Junior Woman’s Club offers two scholarships to young ladies based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, community involvement and financial need. Applications are due to Mrs. Smiley on April 12.

20. The Augusta Chronicle’s annual Best and Brightest Awards are designed to recognize the top twenty seniors in the CSRA. Applicants must complete an essay and an application. Deadline is April 13.

21. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is offering $500 scholarships to seniors based on scholastic achievement, financial need and an essay response. Minorities are encouraged to apply. Applications must be postmarked by April 7.

22. Voorhees College is hosting a high school visitation day on April 16. Contact the office of admissions at Voorhees to sign up.

23. The Augusta Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority is offering a scholarship to a deserving senior. The deadline to apply is May 1st.

24. Voorhees College is offering 10 scholarships to students majoring in Elementary Education.  The scholarships include tuition, room, and board. Contact Voorhees College for details.

25. The annual Marion and Lucille Paschall Scholarship oratorical contest is open to all high school students. The deadline to submit speeches and applications is May 20. Applications are available in Guidance

26. The deadline for scholarship applications for the Pilot Club of North Augusta has been extended to April 26. See Mrs. Smiley with questions. Applications for the North Augusta – Belvedere Board of Realtors Scholarship are available. The deadline to apply is May 3.

27. Applications for the following scholarships are available from Mrs. Smiley: North Augusta High School PTSA and the Belvedere Little League. The deadline to apply is April 30.
