NCAA INITIAL -- ELIGIBILITY
 
NEW RULES YOU NEED TO KNOW
     Increases the number of core courses from 13 to 14.  This additional course may be in any area:  English, mathematics, natural/physical science, social science, foreign language, non-doctrinal religion/philosophy, or computer science.  The breakdown of core course requirements is listed below. 
      
     Changes the Division I initial-eligibility indes, or sliding scale.

* PLEASE NOTE:  Computer science is being eliminated as an acceptable core course area for students first entering college or university on or after August 1, 2005.  Students entering college on or after August 1, 2005, may not use any compter science courses in meeting the core-course reuqirements. 
 
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
  Effective date of new rule:  
  • Students first entering a collegiate institution on or after August 1, 2003, may meet the initial-eligibility requirements under either rule.
  • Students first entering a collegiate institution on or after August 1, 2005, must meet the new 14 core course rule.

Division II is proposing an increase to 14 core courses.  the additional course could be taken in any core-course area.  The proposal, if adopted, would be effective for students first entering a collegiate institution on or after August 1, 2005.
