SUMMARY OF STRENGTHS

AND SUPPORTING EVIDENCE

Areas of Strengths

Evidence

North Augusta High School develops shared vision, beliefs, and mission.
  • Successful execution of the shared vision, beliefs, and mission is shown by a wide range of school-community interaction: parent volunteers, a unique class (Real Life 101), and job shadowing opportunities; community service projects carried out by classes and the various school clubs and organizations; activities such as Open House, Career Day, and Freshman Night; athletic and fine arts events; and the School Improvement Council.
  • Stakeholders are informed, reminded, and updated concerning the shared vision, beliefs, and mission through a variety of means such as the faculty mentoring program, NAHS Faculty Handbook, Parent-Student Handbook, the school website, schoolnotes.com, Open House, the school newsletter, and home mailings.
  • High goals are attained through a variety of instructional practices, assessments, and a wide range of academic programs including technical preparatory, college preparatory, Honors, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate.

North Augusta High School defines measurable goals focused on student learning.

  • NAHS measures achievement of goals in student learning by analyzing the number of students participating in Advanced Placement testing and the results of the testing, analyzing results and trends in scores of standardized testing for the purpose of state-required remediation, analyzing the number of students participating in the International Baccalaureate program and their performance, and analyzing the number of students in completer and diploma programs.
  • NAHS measures achievement of goals in student learning by using the state curriculum standards and state grading scale and analyzing the resulting course grades and trends.  Course grades include exams, tests, homework, projects, and other assignments.  IEP’s and 504 plans are utilized in assessments.
  • To acknowledge high achievers and encourage others to excel, honor roll students and high SAT scorers are recognized through bulletin board promotion and media outlets.
  • Teacher evaluations by administrators measure and confirm quality instruction.

North Augusta High School promotes quality instruction and an academic learning climate.

  • NAHS hires highly qualified teachers, encourages and offers free in-service training, and promotes participation in professional organizations.
  • Daily lesson plans and long/short-range plans are developed using standards-based strategies and assessments.  Department heads monitor lesson plans routinely.
  • The school administration makes frequent evaluations and walk-throughs with verbal or written assessment for the teachers.
  • The faculty is encouraged to post and emphasize rules and consequences in each classroom.
  • The use of safety/hall monitors keeps disruptions to a minimum.
  • The faculty teaches responsibility, the importance of learning, respect for others, and the effects these will have on students’ futures.
