Purpose:  To continue to carry the North Augusta High School Library Media Center into the 21st Century by... 
                        Improving, modernizing, and expanding its materials, facilities, and services. 
                             Promoting a love of reading among students, faculty, and staff. 
                                    Teaching and promoting information literacy and the importance 
                                           of communicating information. 
 
Our LMC has 12 networked computers.  These computers provide access to the Internet, the SC State Library and its DISCUS databases, to career and college information through SCOIS software that is networked off our file server.  Our LMC collection is accessed through our electronic card catalog.  Microsoft Office Professional software is loaded on each computer to help our students complete assignments for classes. 
 
In this day and age of tight budgets and funding cutbacks, it is difficult to keep a library collection updated and current.  With your support we feel that we can continue to provide the best for our school community.  Everyone's help is needed and we hope that our friends and patrons will take an active interest in the Library Media Center and the projects that the Student Library Media Club works on each year. 
 
Any donation is welcome at anytime and is tax deductible.  Receipts on school letterhead will be provided upon request. 
 
Projects and Funding issues: 
 
Replace the old furniture Reason: The LMC furniture is the original furniture from when the school was built in 1969.  Many of the chairs and tables are falling apart and are no longer repairable.
Replace shelving in main reading room Reason:  The old shelving is too high for handicapped accessibility.  The shelves are beginning to lean and many are damaged. 
Establish a broadcast journalism studio Reason:  To add broadcast journalism to our journalism courses to teach students another way to disseminate information to others.  Students will also learn to make and edit videos such as for the prom, homecoming, and other activities.
Purchase new materials Reason:  We are constantly updating our print collection.  School Library Journal  publishes the average new book price as about $24.85.  Reference books cost from $75.00 to $150.00.  Encyclopedias are about $900.00 a set.  The average age of our collection is 27 years old.  The district currently allocates only $9.50 per student for library materials.
