This course is designed as an introductory course for students entering the art program.  Art elements and principles will be stressed through lectures and projects. Students are required to keep a Sketchbook Journal during this course.  They are not graded on talent, but rather on effort and understanding of the principles being taught. In this course students will learn how to correctly use their cameras, how to take pictures and they will learn correct composition. Students are required to keep a journal.  They will also be developing their own film and printing photographs.  The second nine weeks of the course will be devoted to alternative photographic techniques and altering photographs.

This course is for students interested in working in clay.  The first nine weeks is devoted to teaching the basic forming methods and decorating techniques.  The second nine weeks students are engaged in using this knowledge to create more individualized work. This curriculum is based on the PBS art series “Art 21.”  The content is broken into themes students use as a springboard to creative thinking and students will develop works illustrating these themes.  Students will keep an art journal and are expected to enter various art competitions throughout the year.

This course is taught with Advanced Studio.  Students are prepared for entering the IB SL A or SL B program.  The curriculum is the same as Advanced Studio with more emphasis placed on the journal. These students are preparing for IB Visual Arts exam and are expected to work towards meeting the criteria as outlined by the IBO program in their research workbooks.  Studio work:

This course is a performance oriented choir class for developing voices, both male and female. Continuing emphasis will be placed on posture, breathing, vocal technique, and reading. Students will perform moderately challenging music from choral literature.

Varsity Choir will be composed of advanced singers, both male and female, and will represent NAHS at various festivals and competitions.  Members will be capable of performing more difficult works from choral literature.

‘Wings’ is an ensemble (group of 20 or less) which will perform difficult music in various styles.  This group may travel and/or perform in numerous concerts, local events and special performances, which could require after school rehearsals.  ‘Wings’ will also audition for all-State Honor Choir.

 This course is designed to promote a greater awareness and understanding of the power and variety of musical experiences for those who have a general interest in music and for those who intend to continue their formal study of music further.  Candidates are exposed to a broad spectrum of music, ranging from classical and modern Western traditions to that of other regions and cultures.  The creative and practical aspects of music are evenly balanced with the theoretical or academic.  All students study music theory, undertake general and detailed studies of Western music from different time periods and of world music from each continent.  Students also participate in the creation of music through compositions or performance.  Music SL students choose either composition or performance.  Group performance is a requirement in the junior year at NAHS.  Music theory is the requirement of the senior year This course is designed for those students who would like to explore music from a listening and theory standpoint. Students will learn basic music theory from Western Civilization. Students will also listen to and learn about the history of music from the Western Civilization as well as other cultures. No prior musical background is required for this class.
