Child Care Services 1 provides students with the opportunity to actively explore the world of children and acquire knowledge and skills needed to understand and respond to children’s needs. Childcare environments are planned so that students can acquire competencies needed by workers as they guide, instruct, and care for young children.

Food Science and Nutrition 1 Intro to Culinary Arts TP

This course is designed to assist the student in learning about the physical and chemical changes that occur during processing, packaging, and preservation of foods. It is an integration of chemistry, biology, physics, nutrition, and psychology. Through classroom theory and practice, the student will engage in scientific inquiry and problem solving by measuring, recording, graphing data, writing lab reports, and predicting and evaluating experimental results. 

This course introduces 9th graders to the skills necessary to prepare and serve food in the restaurant industry. Work ethics, safety, sanitation, and career planning are stressed.

This course serves as the introduction to the study of food services. All aspects of the industry and potential careers, equipment use and upkeep, food preparation and service, food storage, ordering, work simplification, and basics are covered in this program.

This course includes entry-level competencies in the food service industry. Career opportunities, equipment use and upkeep, food preparation, and large group service is stressed. Serve safe techniques for food receiving, storing, and serving are also included.

This course is designed to teach the student management skills and how to successfully operate a licensed restaurant and catering business. Skills necessary for post-secondary training are also offered in this course.

 

Pre-engineering is a basic introductory class in drafting. It is designed to give students the opportunities to develop fundamental drafting skills. Upon completion of this course, the student should have knowledge of fundamental drafting skills and standards required to interpret working drawings used in industry.

In Pre-Engineering 2, the student is expected to have a sincere interest in technical drawing and/or its relationship to careers in engineering, drafting, manufacturing, construction, architecture, product design and model building.

In Pre-Engineering Work Based, the student will specialize in one or more of the areas on interest from Pre-Engineering 2.  They will be expected to fulfill all the requirements of Pre-Engineering 2 in order to complete the area(s) of interest they have selected.

 

All courses in Career and Technology Education include community service, competition (Skills USA and FCCLA), and co-op experiences.  All of the courses are occupational.  Culinary Arts and Child Care Services have advisory committees, Culinary Arts also operates under the guidelines of the Department of Health and Environmental Control as a licensed facility that is regularly inspected.  The Black and Gold Room, a licensed restaurant facility, provides the primary funds for the courses in Family and Consumer Sciences.

All courses in Career and Technology Education are designed based upon existing facilities and available technology.
